About us
The Taunton Classic Motorcycle Club is formed from a friendly group of riders who meet twice a month to ride bikes and to talk about all things motorcycling.
The majority of members own at least one classic bike. It’s not unusual to see a whole variety of bikes on the Club rides including Triumphs, Nortons and Velocettes alongside modern classics such as Laverdas, Yamaha LCs and Honda 4s. Often members choose to use their ‘modern retro’ such as Hinkley Triumphs and Royal Enfields.
In summary, we are an inclusive club that welcomes members who wish to ride ‘special’ bikes from a bygone era at a sensible pace. Come along and join in, you’ll be made welcome by all.

CLUB HISTORY
In March/April 1989 Doug Linton put an advert in the local paper as he wanted to meet with other like minded motorcyclists in the Taunton Area with a view to starting a club.
At the first gathering in the Four Alls Pub in Corporation Street about 20 people came along and some of that original number are still attending the Club. A Club was formed and was named the TAUNTON & DISTRICT BRITISH & CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE CLUB.
Meetings at the Four Alls continued and the first club rideout was in September with the group riding to
The Old Station House Inn at Blackmoor Gate. This may have been how our annual Exmoor Run started!
The club moved from the Four Alls to the Cavalier at Bishops Hull, The Cottage Inn - Kingston Road, The Bathpool Inn, The Bell at Creech, The Ruishton Inn, back to The Bell and then returned to The Ruishton where we still meet now.
Whist they were meeting at The Cavalier, some of the members wanted a less formal gathering where there was no business to discuss and social activities were the priority. That was the start of HELLS WRINKLIES CREECH – this ran alongside the Club – Hell’s Wrinklies mainly consisted of Club members but attracted many others who simply wanted to socialise and ride their motorcycles without the need to join a formal Club.
On the second Thursday of each month, there was a ride out and then a social gathering at the Bell – usually for burger and chips and a pint! Each week throughout the summer, something special was organised by Roger Oaten. The event that is most talked about is the annual Teddy Boy’s Picnic!
As with everything, the club has evolved and at our meeting in January 2015, members voted to change the club name and embrace a new web site. We are now known as the TAUNTON CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE CLUB.
The new name does not change us - we are the same club with the same friendly faces.
